Consumer Credit File Rights Under State and Federal Law
You have the right to dispute inaccurate information in your credit report by contacting the credit bureau directly. You do not need to hire a credit repair organization to exercise this right.
You may obtain a free copy of your credit report from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting agencies once every 12 months.
You have the right to dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in your credit report. If you notify a credit reporting agency that you dispute information, the agency must reinvestigate the disputed information free of charge.
The credit reporting agency must remove or correct inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable information, usually within 30 days.
However, the credit reporting agency is not required to remove accurate information from your credit report unless it is outdated under applicable law.
